Barry has been with the Department since he graduated the 147th Oakland Police Academy in 2000. Following graduation he served in the Patrol Division. In 2006 he was promoted to Sergeant.
In 2005, Barry began serving on the OPOA Board of Directors. In January 2012, he became President of the OPOA, prior to that he was Vice President for three years and OPOA Secretary for one year.
Barry has sat on the association’s contract negotiation and arbitration team continuously since March 2006. Barry is chairman of IBT, the association’s trust overseeing many member and retiree benefits. Barry also represents the association on the City’s Deferred Compensation Committee, managing the city’s 457 investment plan. Barry is also a Director on the PORAC (Police Officer Research Association of California) Board of Directors.
