Oakland Police Department Makes Arrests in Homicide and the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office Charges Two Suspects

Oakland, CA –Today, January 3, 2020, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Byron Reed, 22, and Javon Lee, 21, in connection with the homicide of Shuo Zeng, 34, of Oakland that occurred on December 31, 2019, at 11:37 AM, in the 2000 block of Mountain Boulevard.

Byron Reed-charged with special circumstance murder and second degree robbery.

Javon Lee-charged with involuntary manslaughter and second degree robbery.

Investigators are still determining if additional suspects(s) are involved.

BACKGROUND: On December 31, 2019, at 11:37 AM, Oakland Police officers responded to the 2000 block of Mountain Boulevard on a report of a lap top theft. The preliminary investigation revealed while the victim was inside a local business a suspect(s) approached the victim and took his lap top. The victim followed the suspect(s) in an attempt to recover the lap top, unfortunately the victim was critically injured as the suspect(s) vehicle fled in the 6100 block of Antioch Street. The Oakland Fire Department was in the immediate area and was able to render medical attention. The victim was transported to a local hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.

The Oakland Police Department and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering a reward of up to $15,000 for information that would lead to an arrest in this case.
