“Ring” Camera Video of Violent Robbery is Everyday Event in Oakland as Oakland Suffers More Than 1000 Violent Robberies.

OAKLAND – The terrifying armed robbery recorded on a “ring” camera and circulated extensively on social media this week was but one of the epidemic of armed robberies taking place in the City of Oakland.

There were 1,023 robberies carried out at gun point in Oakland last year. An 18% increase over 2018.  That’s an additional 159 robbery victims terrorized and violently robbed at gunpoint.

While Oakland has experienced increases in robberies, and almost every other type of crime, there are actually less Oakland Police Officers today compared to a year ago.  Oakland Police Officers’ Association President Barry Donelan explained, “In the last year Oakland crime has increased in almost every category, while Oakland’s Police Officer numbers shrunk.  Oakland Police Officers are struggling every day for justice for Oakland’s crime victims, but we wonder if justice for the victims of violent crime is a priority for Oakland’s leaders because when Oakland Police point out these numbers, we are accused of politicizing crime[1].”

About the Oakland Police Officers’ Association: The Oakland Police Officers’ Association (OPOA) represents all sworn members at all ranks within the Oakland Police Department.  Representing the hardest working Police Officers in America.  The OPOA can be found on the Web at www.opoa.org.
