In the last couple of months we have met many times with both the City Administrator and members of the City Council. More recently, there has been a flurry of meetings, offers, and counter-offers. It is reasonable to expect that within the next week we may arrive at a tentative agreement with the city. For that reason I am asking for more time – time to complete negotiations, get the best deal possible, and submit it to the membership. If so, ultimately it will be you the OPOA member who decides whether to accept or reject it. If the agreement is rejected, the raise will be retroactive to 1 July 2009.

On Saturday, 20 June 2009, Oakland City Council Member Nancy Nadel posted inaccurate remarks on a Yahoo community group concerning the Oakland Police Officers’ Association (OPOA). Council Member Nadel was commenting on an ongoing lawsuit (brought pursuant to the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act), in which the City of Oakland is the defendant. Council Member Nadel incorrectly stated that the OPOA is suing the city in this matter. This statement is false. The lawsuit is instead being brought by former and current Oakland Police officers. The OPOA is not a party to the lawsuit.
